    Product feature
    1. Waterproofness
Waterproofness is a fabric's ability to prevent rain water from passing through. A fabric's waterproofing is determined by measuring its resistance to the pressure exerted by a water column, measured in mm (test based on ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. Material with a waterproof rating of 2000 mm resists the pressure exerted by 2000 mm of water (which roughly corresponds to a 2-hour rain shower).
    2. Breathability
To determine whether a fabric is breathable, we measure its evaporative resistance (test based on standard ISO 11092). The lower its resistance, the more the fabric will let water vapour produced by the body escape, and therefore the more breathable it is. For example: RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric.
    3. Visibility while cycling
This garment is VIOO Clip ready. VIOO Clip is a LED light that can be clipped and unclipped anywhere in a single step. Red or white lights are available and can be used in continuous or flashing mode. The VIOO Clip effectively signals your position from up to 120 meters away. Battery life (9 hours in flashing mode, 4½ hours in continuous mode). Easy to charge using a USB cable (sold with the VIOO Clip).
    4. Product tests
Our team of product designers is based at the B'Twin Village in Lille (France). All year round, we conceive and develop new products that are easy to use, look great, and have the technical features needed for your cycling experiences. They are then mercilessly put to the test by users in the field, as we are convinced that only by subjecting our products to real world conditions, such as the ones you will experience on your bike, can we continuously improve them.
    5. Care tips
Machine wash at 30°C. Synthetic programme. Turn the garment inside out. Use minimal laundry detergent. Do not add softener. Line dry in a warm, ventilated area. Do not tumble dry. Do not dry clean. Do not bleach. Do not place on a heater to dry.
    6. A rating to compare products' environmental impact.
A product's environmental impact is calculated for its entire life cycle using various indicators. Products are then given an ABCDE rating to help you easily identify products having the best environmental performance (lowest impact) by comparing different products of the same type (T-shirts, bottoms, backpacks, etc.) Decathlon voluntarily chooses to display the environmental ratings of its products. • Just Average - Okayish for the Money

      THOMAS (United Kingdom)
Used for More than 1 year
I have had my jacket for about a year now. It is fine for heavy showers as it stops you getting soaked. But due to the stupidly placed vent openings (right where the rucksack straps go), the air cannot get in as it is closed, hence why you end up as a sweaty mess underneath. This is fine in the winter weather commutes, the heat building up is nice. But for 80% of the time I use it, it just makes a good waterproof cover around my ruck sack.

For £20 you can't really complain but I think with very little cost increase B'Twin could make this jacket so much better. (Re-positioning of the front vents. Rigid openings to keep them open when speed increases)

Update to my previous review below.
The first jacket I had was really disappointing but I was contacted by Peter at Decathlon and long story short, despite my jacket being over a year old and I not having a receipt, it was changed with absolutely no questions asked. Yes there's some condensation because it's not breathable but there are no claims that it is, and the replacement so far has been a big improvement with two-zipped double rear pockets, better reflection, a collar that covers the neck, and up to now has been flawless in quite heavy rain. Great jacket for chilly and damp spring and autumn (and even winter) weather. Thank-you Peter and Decathlon for a great product and top class customer service.

    • Disappoining

      Alan (United Kingdom)
Used for 1 week or less
I brought this jacket on line about a week ago the first time i used it i got wet though.Your web said it was waterpoof for a 2 hour ride.it only takes me 40 minutes to work. and i got soaked.
      Not waterproof
      Response of the brand
I'm sorry to read that you got wet on your ride.
Hard to tell how hard the rain was or how much perspiration built up in the jacket (as it is not breathable) but in moderate rain for 40 minutes I would not expect water to seep through (it is coated and has taped seams). A 40 minute ride in rain at a moderate pace will certainly create a good degree of condensation. The fabric itself is tested and has a hydrostatic head rating of 2000mm.
If you feel that the jacket is faulty or you are not happy with the level of performance it offers then please feel free to return it to us for a refund.

    • unwearable

just unbearably hot to wear. only tried it once, when it was chucking it down, but had to take it off after five minutes as it was too hot.
      too hot
      Response of the brand
      Hi Neil,

Sorry to hear you are unhappy with the Rainjacket 500. I do agree that the jacket could do with something extra to make it more breathable other than the hole at the back, though this does then increase the price. The 700 range does offer a lot more breathability over the 500.

    • Not breathable at all

      Sherif (United Kingdom)
Used for 1 week or less
Unfortunately its quite uncomfortable as it doesnt let any of the moisture out. Tried to return to the store I biught it from (Croydon) and was refused as it had been used.

What happened to "Buy it Try it Youll love it if not not we'll return it with a smile" 365 Days to return. I only bought it 3 days ago with all my other cycling gear (£455)
      Comfortable fit, High vis
      Not breathable
      Response of the brand
      Dear Sir,
I'm sorry to read that the jacket is not breathable enough for your needs. In cool rainy weather, the jacket should have enough ventilation on it to keep you cool enough on moderate rides.
As it was quite warm last week (in the 20s) , I'm not surprised to read that you found it to be warm. Ideally it should only be worn when raining which will keep you cooler.
If you wish to be visible then an ultralight version may be more suitable in spring/summer: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/700-ultralight-windproof-cycling-jacket-yellow-id_8283389.html
Regarding the returns policy, you are correct in saying that if you are not satisfied with the product then you can indeed return it to us.  I have contacted the store about this.
