How to choose my bike clothing, foot and head wear?

    THE RIGHT MATERIAL

There is a difference between natural and synthetic fibres. Both have their pros and cons

    Natural fibers

Cotton is a natural fibre that will absorb sweat, but once absorbed, the sweat is retained by the cotton, which doesn't dry easily, especially in wet weather. Cotton is relatively warm. Sports clothing is not generally made of 100% cotton; rather, it can be mixed with synthetic fibres.

Wool is not an efficient fibre for absorbing sweat, but does give good protection from the cold. Like cotton, wool can be mixed with synthetic fibres to combine the properties of different fibres.

    Synthetic fibers

Polyester and polyamide have similar properties. These fibres are breathable: the sweat is evacuated quickly. It can be woven tight to make it wind and waterproof. They are used in cycling shorts, tights, jackets, shirts...

Elasthan or lycra is a revolutionary fibre very useful to give stretch to the clothing.
