    • Great for city commute

      Andrew (United Kingdom)

I have had this bike now for a month and have found it to be great. Although it is a single speed it is perfectly adequate for city commute. I cover just over 6 miles a day on it and so far has been great I have not really found myself grabbing for another gear.
Pros: fantastic value for money. Fairly compact. Ideal for city commute. Quicker than walking/running and costs about the same as a decent pair of trainers.
Cons: quite heavy, handlebars when folded bang against the frame caused decals to peel from frame where water got underneath. My biggest gripe though is the seat post this will not go down to enable it to fully fold it did for the first two uses then stiffened up and now will not go down at all! I will have to take it back to the store to get this rectified.
That said I am really pleased with it and I have done a 9 mile canal ride on it at 3 am when I missed my last tube and the free lights stood up to the task as I didn't fall in to the canal when it was pitch black.
Not 5 stars because of the couple of points raised and components are not high end (but I didn't expect anything else)
I have recommended this to a friend who now owns one too!!
    • Easy to use, but with seat issues.

I bought this bike being an amateur to cycling. Wanting to commute to work by car share and then bike home in the evening, this seemed perfect for me. The design is sleek, bike is light and it's quick to fold up and down, no issues there. Tires felt solid, and unlike a few reviews where brake cables seem to have problems I found that mine were fine.

What I have found though is that my seat will not stay in any position. I've used this bike once. On my first ride, half way up a hill, the seat tilted back. After some tinkering I changed it to the position I wanted it. It happened again. This was a ride of only about 10 minutes, the seat moved 3 times and I was unable to go any further due to the severity of the position the seat was in. It was incredibly comfortable to free wheel down the hill in that position.
I have taken time to adjust the seat, following guidance in the user manual. Upon weighting the bike, and sitting on it, to gauge the seat, it always flips back.

I do not know what I can do to rectify this, apart from buy a new seat entirely, but was disappointed in the bike for this sole reason. I read the reviews before hand and assumed that it was just a one off that somebody else had an issue with the seat, now I'm not so sure.

The delivery of the bike left me with little confidence though as the frame of the bike was protruding from the tatty box, perhaps it was damaged in transit. I have no idea.

Fair warning: If you get one of these bikes, they do seem like a great deal of fun, they are incredibly efficient for any commuter (not incredibly light so I wouldn't want to carry it for too long) and I think they look cool. However if you get a dodgy seat then you won't be able to enjoy anything about it, it does seem like it's hit or miss as to whether the seat will work or not. If you do take a chance on it then I implore you to pick it up from store as I waited a whole day for it to arrive, and the package looked in a sorry state when it did.
Great price, comfy, rides well, easy to use/fold.
Seat seems to have issues staying fixed in palce.
    • Just not up to standard

      Adam (United Kingdom)
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I have had a Hopton 300 for 2 weeks and I have reluctantly just requested a return and a full refund - it is simply just not up to standard. Whilst I am prepared to compromise on quality when I pay on £129 for a bike, I am not prepared to accept poor quality parts and design

      - Saddle constantly worked loose and had to be tighted after every 2 rides
      - Brake cable rubs against the lefthand pedal the whole time
      - Didn't fold properly as the seat post would not go into the frame

I am usually a massive fan of Decathlon kit, including bike accessories but in this instance, the engineering and quality of the bike itself has been a real disappointment

      Response of the brand
      Dear Sir,
The issues you raise are crucial to the good functioning of this bike. None of the points you highlight should occur.
Reading a few of the other reviews on this item, the saddle and the seat post don't seem to crop up as an issue (I had a look at the international reviews as well). For this reason, your particular bike may well be faulty therefore please return it to your local store for a repair/refund.
I will forward all of your comments on to the product manager in charge of folding bikes at b'Twin.

    • Really good for the job with no big expectations

      Laura (United Kingdom)
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I just love it as it solved my storage problem as I can't park it anywhere outside my flat without the risk to get stolen! And also it takes not so much space in my room. It is good to carry in the office or on the tube/ bus. Although I always find some tube stations with access to the lift. I cycle a lot for short rides to work or long ones for leisure. However since there's no gear I only use it from north London to go on the south as it is all down the hill...on the other way round I just carry it on the tube. I just love it! I wish there were more accessories with it as a bag to carry it on the coach or flight.
