Footwear waterproofing test.Tested both in the lab and real-world usage, NOVADRY®-equipped footwear guarantees optimum waterproofing and breathability. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking, half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
3 levels of waterproofing.During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once dry.
Shoe waterproofing level. The FORCLAZ 500 High boot is waterproof for 8000 flexes.
Buying tipsTry on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going down. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Gradually start using you shoes during your first few hiking trips to break them in.

not waterprrof09/10/2016comfortable for tough terrain, not waterproof.Response of the brandHi Prateek,
Thank you for getting in touch regarding the Forclaz 500 High Boots. The Boots come with a waterproof PU membrane inside and a water-repellent treatment outside. There are few possibilities here with regards to water coming in.
1. The outside water-repellent treatment has deteriorated and the fabric is absorbing water, this is highly likely to happen with usage and all waterproof products need renewal of this coating after regular intervals (very similar to waxing leather shoes). You can renew the treatment by spraying it with water-repellent spray for outdoor boots.
2. The inside water-proof membrane got damaged. This can be due to wear and tear or usage. Not much can be done when this happens.
3. Water is coming in from the top or the tongue if you are not wearing Gaiters. Capillary action sucks water from surrounding areas(puddles, dew on long grass etc.) and the dry parts of the boots get wet. Gaiters with waterproof overtrousers are advised in this case.
4. It is not water that has got in but the sweat that is finding it hard to escape the boots because the breathability of the boots is reduced due to the waterproof membrane getting clogged with dirt or salt crystals found in sweat, all it need is a good clean(inside&outside both) that will open the pores of the membrane. Use footwear cleaner for this purpose, air dry the boots completely in shade and apply the water-repellent spray after that. Leave it to dry. Not good for hardy use24/09/2016Response of the brandHi Ajoy,
Thank you for your feedback on the Forclaz 500 High Boots. I am sorry to hear that you did not find the boots comfortable.
The Forclaz 500 High has been designed for hiking in the mountains on all type of terrain. The design of this boot is relatively wider to accommodate all types of foot shapes.
As you might know already, blisters are very common when there is friction involved within the boot. Therefore it is very important to tighten the laces securely in order to avoid the foot moving inside the boot.
Also, as some individuals (like me) can have relatively narrow foot shape therefore using an insole underneath the normal insole (to reduce overall volume without reducing the length) is suggested.
Furthermore, the sole is designed to allow easy rolling of the foot to move forward especially on technical terrain.
Here is a little video of how we made these boots.
You can also take your boots to your nearest Decathlon for inspection, the team would be happy to assist you with insoles/lacing techniques etc.
Please feel free to get back to me in case you have any doubts.
Many Thanks and Regards,
