    Product feature
    1. CrossContact sole:
Lengthy research into the design of the sole at the Essensole laboratories, combined with a special rubber formulation optimise grip on rocky terrain.
    2. 360° System:
Our exclusive system uses a strap that goes under your instep. Tightening your laces also tightens the strap, bringing you better instep support without affecting comfort. Since the angle of the strap is aligned with the laces, there are no uncomfortable hard pressure points. This provides unrivalled support and therefore greater precision and safety in challenging sections.
    3. X stab technology:
TPU part (rigid plastic) stabilises the heel. This insert is embedded into the compression-moulded EVA at the heel thereby stabilising and keeping it in position at the back of the shoe. The insert extends out at the sides so that it is covered by the 360° System strap, gently merging with the rest of the shoe at the forefoot. It is used to brace the foot and, along with the injection-moulded EVA in the front sole, provides excellent push off.
    4. Cushioning:
Two types of materials have been used to provide an optimised cushioning / weight ratio. The heel (the part of your foot that needs the most cushioning) is made of compressed EVA. This provides long-lasting cushioning over time whilst minimising the thickness of the shoe. The front of the shoe is made of injected EVA; this light and bouncy material allows you to push off effectively.
    5. Footwear waterproofing test.
Footwear waterproofing test: tested in the laboratory and in use, footwear fitted with a waterproof, breathable membrane afford optimum protection from the rain. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
    6. 3 levels of waterproofing.
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once dry.
    7. Shoe waterproofing level.
The Forclaz 700 boot is waterproof for 8000 flexes.
    8. Buying tips
Try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going down. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Gradually start using you shoes during your first few hiking trips to break them in.
    9. What size should I choose?
For hiking, take the size above your usual shoe size to ensure optimum comfort when travelling downhill and to prevent your from hitting the tips of the shoes. Tip: keep your toenails short and check that your laces stop your foot from sliding to the front of the shoes before you start downhill.

I travelled into Aberdeen to buy new boots but none were quite right. Went on line and ordered these boots as I've always been happy with the Quechua range and also decathalon returns are excellent. I was so pleased when I opened the box, the colour and most of all the fit. I have now been on a few 10-15km walks in the Cairngorms they just seem to get better. So pleased!
Excellent fit, light, flexible and also supportive
    • Not suitable for mountian hiking

      John (United Kingdom)
Used for 3 to 6 months
Since my last review on 16/07/15 I have used these boots throughout my summer hiking season and am now very disappointed in them. I've been on 5 separate hiking trips covering 109km and 20 munros and quite frankly nearly threw these boots away after my last one this week.

Firstly the positives. They are extremely comfortable, lightweight, waterproof and the lacing system works well.

Now the several issues that have developed.

WATERPROOFING - They are indeed very waterproof, however once the outer material is wet, it stays wet no matter how hot or sunny a day you are walking in or how dry the trails are. In fact the material seems to gather moisture once it is wet until the boot is completely soaked on the outside. Once home it then takes days to dry out naturally (even leaving them sitting in the sun). I was on a gentle forest walk yesterday and the boots got wet with the morning dew. They were still wet this morning after sitting in a room heated with a coal fire overnight! For comparison I was sitting in shorts and T-shirt the room was so warm!

BREATHABILITY - This issue with the outer material seems to effect the breathability. Once the boots are wet on the outside the breathability on the inside is non-existent. At the end of each hike when the boot has got wet on the outside my feet have been wet on the inside. I thought it was a waterproofing fail but checked round the inside of the boot and it was dry, apart from the bottom where my foot had been. I wear lightweight socks too but the sweat has nowhere to go in this boot so my feet just get wet (and very smelly!) Again this takes days to dry out and every night after a hike I have to stuff the boots with newspaper to help soak up the trapped moisture.

GRIP - Possibly my biggest gripe with these boots. They are downright dangerous (IMO) on any wet surface be it grass, boggy ground or rock in the mountains. The biggest way Quechua have saved weight is by replacing the good gripping 6mm lugs on the previous Forclaz boots with what is essentially a trainer sole with a couple of mm of tread that doesn't grip on anything that is slightly wet. I've more grip in my vibram soled trainers. On boggy / wet ground as soon as you step on the soft surface the gaps between the tread fill up completely leaving you with a surface like a slick racing tyre to try to walk on, absolutely useless. On damp / wet rock you just have to tread very gingerly and not put too much weight on either foot because the boot will just slide out from under you. Just so you know I stick to well trodden paths in the mountains and hike, I do not rock climb with these boots on so it is not like I am using them for something they are not designed for.

My previous Forclaz boots were excellent. These ones are useless for mountain hiking. Go back to making proper, mountain hiking boots instead of this hybrid. I now have to go find the money to replace these, I'm so sick of them.
      Waterproof, comfortable
Not breathable, terrible grip, takes ages to dry
