    • Nothing but problems with the gears

      Simon (United Kingdom)
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Had the bike just over 2 weeks and had to take it back twice due to gear problems and the chain coming off. The staff did all they could and we're very helpful but I had to return it in the end. I should have read the reviews before purchasing, it seems lik e this is a common problem.

      The gears!
      Response of the brand
I'm sorry that you have so many issued with the gears.
I would agree that changing the drivetrain on this model would be a good idea. Some customers have had issues whilst others have not.
I will certainly forward your comments on to the product manager in charge of this bike.
I'm glad that our store team tried to resolve the shifting issues and that you were able to obtain a refund for this bike.

    • Nice bike - Dangerous gears

      Peter (United Kingdom)
Used for More than 1 year
I bought this bike in June 2015 to commute on (4 1/2 miles each way) - Used to do this on a fixed gear but due to a house move to the top of a huge hill I needed something with gears.

Ordered it online - Delivery was really fast, bike was well packed, looked really nice, seemed to be sturdy without being too heavy.
The lights that were included were a bit big but great if this is your first bike as its one less thing to buy. Also comes with a couple of tools to finish putting it together out of the box and toe-clips on the pedals.
Once I'd put it together and tweaked the brakes and gears I took it for a spin around the block - everything was fine apart from the saddle which was a little uncomfortable - easily replaceable though for not much outlay. So far so good.
Now my commute TO work is 90-95% downhill - unfortunately any bump in the road, change in gear...ANYTHING - knocks the chain off / gets it caught in between the cogs etc. So much so that I had to ride with my feet out of the toeclips as I really didn't feel safe cycling in traffic.
Once at work I adjusted the gear setup so it everything was perfectly aligned for the ride home - 90-95% of which is of course up hill.
Checked the gears again before setting off - everything fine.
This is pretty much where my commute ended. As soon as I attempted to go up a hill (In quite a low gear) the chain slipped and I pulled something in my groin and had to call Her indoors to pick me and the bike up. The bike sat in the shed for a year with me unable to ride at all.
I shredded and binned the box immediately and didn't have a Decathlon store local so couldn't return it or else I would have so I ended up having to keep the bike with the view of trying the commute again once I was able to, which was quite recently.

I had to go easy as I really didn't want to do myself another mischief but the same thing happened again so its back in the shed gathering dust.

      Good Points:
      The cycle itself looks good
      Lightweight at this price bracket
      Lights included

      Bad points:
      Cheap saddle
      Crud Raceblades don't fit
Front forks are steel (Which I hate - this is personal choice though)
      Everything about the gear set

I really want to love this bike, its cheap enough and everything other than the gears I could live with but as other reviewers have said, these gears are just cheap and unsafe. Anything could happen if they slip whilst cycling in traffic and even when just cycling in general.
Don't waste your money on this bike - and if you do - keep the box so you can send it back.
Better yet, I believe some of the other Tribans have better gearsets with them - Buy one of those instead.

    • This Bike Is Downright Dangerous

      Peter (United Kingdom)
Used for 1 week or less
Received this bike and after setting up the handlebars and pedals took it out for a tootle around outside all seemed well.

The next day I took it out on the road first traffic lights i pulled away the chain slipped massively and my knee hit the bars ouch, luckily the car behind me didnt run up my backside as i struggled to stay on the bike.

During this first 6 mile commute this happend every time i set off in anything other than the granny cog my right knee was bruised and i was very lucky not to have been hit by the cars behind moving away from the lights!

But thats not all, during normal riding on the flat if you are on the middle cog and you ride over any road surface that isnt velodrome smooth it will slap off the front cog and onto the inner cog again forcing you to loose traction and on busy roads this is extremly dangerous

I have no faith in getting up out of the saddle and can only pull away from T junctions when there is nothing coming as if you pull out and you need to pedal the chances are the gears will slip and your in danger of being stranded in the middle of the road while the oncoming traffic bears down on you!

There are aloso other negatives such as the sizing table stating the M is suitable for 32" leg but it is far too small so much so that the seat height raises no problem but the headsock is already overspaced so can not be raised at all, meaning too much weight on the wrists.
Cheap, terrible gearset, gear slips etc bad set up
      Response of the brand
      Dear Sir,
I'm very sad to read that we did not set this bike up correctly for you. Notably the gears.
A simple adjustment will get your bike running smoothly. I'll ask one of our customer service team members to assist as i see that you have one of our stores in Huyton and another not too far away in Warrington.
Regarding the riding position, it does share many of the characteristics of a road bike therefore it may be worth trying two things to help reduce the weight on your wrists such as sliding the saddle back a tad or even modifying the length or even angle of your stem. This is a popular option and I could suggest this angled version as an upgrade: or a shorter one such as this:

    • Excellent bike

      Iskandar (United Kingdom)
Used for 1 week or less
I bought two last April from Sheffield.

It is a great first proper bike for beginnner.
I've used it for commuting to work (4miles roundtrip) and weekend recreational with family.
The gearchange is smooth even on a moderate slope.
Its comfortable and fast compared to my old supermarket mountain bike(Vintage Peugeot).

It got nicked by 2 young lads yesterday and I'm gutted.
