What is a pop-up tent?

A pop-up tent is, as the name suggests, a tent that will just pop up into shape. There's no need for a complicated setup, tent poles, or fumbling with the material. This is the easiest type of tent to set up and is perfect for those who want to get their tent pitched with absolutely no hassle.

Pop-up tents are the perfect tent for beginners and at Decathlon you are spoiled for choice. We have a wide range of affordable pop-up tents in many different styles and designs so we know you will find the tent that suits you just right and don’t worry we have really good waterproof options as well, you might be thankful for high waterproof qualities with Ireland’s temperamental weather.

Pop-up tents work by using spring-loaded poles that are attached to the body of the tent. These springs will remain compressed while your tent is in its bag, but once it is out of the bag the springs will force the poles to expand, pushing them to all the walls of the tent so that it is ready to go. The only bit of manual labour you need to do is peg it into the ground.

Folding the tent back up into the bag can be a little bit trickier, but all of our tents will come with instructions from the manufacturer on the best way to fold it back up.

Pop-up tents are the best option for many different people. They are perfect for families camping together, not only are they the perfect tent to introduce your kids to camping, but it also means you will be able to keep an eye on your kids at all times instead of fumbling with tent poles while trying to make sure your kid is being safe.

They are also an excellent choice for casual campers. Casual campers are anyone who just wants to get the tent down and chill out in nature without any distractions or maybe there is a group of you who decided to go camping for the night instead of getting an AirBnB or hotel.

Festival goers make great use of pop-up tents. We all know the struggle of lugging all our gear to the campsite and then spending ages attempting to pitch a tent and no one really knows how to do it properly. That is where a pop-up tent comes in so handy. You can literally just drop it onto the ground and it will explode into a fully formed tent ready to go. We'll let you in on a little tip for festival goers as well. Pop-up tents make a great storage tent for everyone's gear so your own tents don’t feel as cramped when you sleep in them.

Whatever you choose to use your tent for, we advise that you use it responsibly and follow the principles of “Leave no Trace”. Everything you bring with you camping should be taken home with you again and disposed of correctly.
