  • Luxury festival camp made easy

    29/06/2018

Used for 1 week or less
I bought this tent for me and a friend who go to music festival's in this and abroad. We are both well over 6' and 20at we had plenty of space it nice to be able to stand up straight in side a tent. It's so easy to put up took us 15 minutes. The fresh and black element of the tent is a God send at the first festival we use the tent temperatures were in the mid 30's. Inside the tent was cooler than standing under our groups gazebo and kept beer at a chilled drinkable level and none of the waking up at 8a.m. Drenched in sweat my mate managed to stay a sleep till midday. The other people in my group were that impressed they are looking to purchase similar tents for next year
  • Traded Up

    22/06/2018

Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I had been using a Vango 8 man tent for about 15 years and wanted to try an air frame tent for ease - as camping tends to be with only 1 or 2 of our four children it also seemed a good time to downsize. This tent did not disappoint. I had it pegged out and erected in less than ten minutes and took only another 5 minutes to peg out the lines. The compartments are smaller than we are used to but that's no surprise is it!
The rooms are dark enough to keep the children asleep much longer than in the old tent as the sunrise would wake them early. We had some rain and all was good and dry on the inside.
I had worried that there might be some air leakage from the frame but none at all over the weekend.
I managed to take all down and back into the bag on my own quite easily.
Recommendation, take a tarpaulin to use as a footprint and it helps keep it clean as well as keeping the weather out when dismantling and wanting to keep the tent dry. Do Decathlon do a footprint?
I also bought the carpet for the inside which was good underfoot. Planning to buy the shelter ahead of the next trip.
  • Great...until the valve came loose

We bought the 4.2XL (an earlier version) a couple of years ago and really liked it - brilliantly easy to put up and very roomy inside. However, on its 5th outing, when we tried to put it up at the campsite we discovered that one of the valves had perished and separated from the inner tube housing. It wasn't fixable and we had to buy an emergency replacement tent in a hurry.
  • Perfect family tent

Easy to erect and roomy. The black interior works much better than expected. Glorious sunshine outside and you can sleep in the dark. Perfect!
  • Good tent but disappointing lack of darkn

We had the chance to test the tent on a three day camping trip in sunny Wales.
The construction, assembly and disassembly are well designed and the tent offers good space. In this regards we enjoyed using the tent. Time will tell how it holds up in the rain; something i can't comment on just yet.
What we found disappointing is that the sleeping compartments are actually quite light in the daytime. Having bought this 'Fresh & Black's tent for the advertised 99% darkness and after having tested the darkness of the 2 SECONDS EASY II FRESH&BLACK POP UP TENT - 2 MAN in store, we were actually expecting near total darkness. However the tent design of the 4.2 xl allows a lot of daylight to enter the sleeping area. I have posted a photo on here to show a view from inside the sleeping area.

Space wise the tent is pretty good. The central 'lounger area's worked well for having family meals and for storing things.
The bedrooms are 140cm wide and feel a bit tight at times.

The 4.2xl is an overall well designed tent, yet it is let down by the choice of fabrics on the inside of the tent allowing too much light to enter.
If you're after a tent that's nice and dark you'll be disappointed by this specific tent.
