Product feature
  1. Laboratory Testing
We carry out laboratory tests to validate all component parts: fabric, buckles, straps, foam and zips. For example, for fabric: resistance to wear, tearing, colour-fastness under UV rays, washing, waterproofing. A final test on the finished product simulates the kind of treatment to which it will be subjected over several years, to assess the strength of the assembly: the backpack is weighted then placed on a dummy which then reproduces the movement of fast walking over thousands of cycles.
  2. 10-year guarantee, technical partnership
The heavy stitching research and development department, Quechua's partner for researching and testing its components and assemblies, conducted tests simulating backpack ageing. The tests focused on components, seams and the end product. As a result of these tests, Quechua can guarantee all bags tested for a duration of 10 years from the date of purchase indicated on the sales receipt.
  3. 10-year guarantee, conditions
The guarantee covers any backpack faults, except those caused by normal wear and tear and improper use. This special 10-year guarantee will only be granted upon presentation of the product and sales receipt. If the product is covered by the guarantee, it will be repaired or exchanged free of charge. This commercial guarantee does not affect any statutory guarantees that are applicable in the country of purchase.
  4. How is volume measured?
The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method: we fill the main compartment as well as each pocket with little balls. Then we empty these balls into a graduated container, which gives the equivalent volume in litres.
  5. How to adjust your backpack?
1 - Loosen all the straps (straps, hip belt, load adjuster straps). 2 - Put the backpack on. 3 - For backpacks with a capacity of 50 L or more, place the hip belt correctly (it should sit over the pelvis) and tighten it. For smaller backpacks, the belt should be placed around the waist. 4 -Tighten the shoulder straps. 5 - Adjust the load adjuster straps as needed.
  6. How to pack backpack?
Put your bedding at the bottom. Place heavy gear (tent, camp stove, food) near your back. Pack your clothes around these items. The groundsheet should be placed under the flap and the tent beneath the pack if there is no space inside. Keep a rainproof jacket and fleece close at hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. If carrying a hydration pack (water bladder), this should be placed in its special pocket along the back.
  7. Environmental measures
The environmental impact of the product is calculated over the entire lifecycle of the product using different indicators. An overall rating of ABCDE is provided to help you easily identify products with the best environmental performance by comparing products of the same type with each other (t-shirts, trousers and backpacks). Decathlon is a voluntary actor in this environmental labellling process. For further information:

  • Poor Quality Product

    Brian (United Kingdom)
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I bought this rucksack to use on holiday, and was really disappointed. It split at the join between the main pack and expander top section, and the stitching has come out on one of the shoulder straps. Looking at the bag against bright light, you can see the potential for the fabric to fray at the joins in several areas. I know it wasn't expensive, but I would not recommend this bag. I wish I had spent more money on one of better quality/more durable, but you don't know until you use the bag. I live quite far away from the Decathlon store where I bought the bag, but will be returning it for a full refund.
    Response of the brand
    Good evening,

I am sorry that you have experienced this issue with the Arpenaz 30 litre backpack. All our Quechua backpacks come with a 10 year warranty. I am sorry if this one has not come up to our usual standard and started to fray early. If you contact your local store with proof of purchase, they should be able to help you out.

  • Fantastic backpack

This bag is great for me. It's nice and simple with just one main compartment, one zip pocket in the lid and the 2 side water bottle pockets. It seems durable so far, the back system is comfy and I like the colour. I have used it for a 20 mile hike and also for a weekend break in Paris, perfect for both trips.
  • Excellent purchase

This product is perfect for my needs and the price is unbelievable value!! I cycle to work and use the bag to take my work attire, for which there is plenty of room! The little pouch at the top of the bag is also perfect for my lunch!

A lightweight but sturdy backpack. Packs flat so fits nicely into bottom of suitcase for holiday use. Just used it to carry camera and spare warm clothing whilst on short trip[ to Iceland. It kept items dry as I walked through a blizzard and was comfortable to wear. The tops of the outside net pockets could have been made of firmer elastic. My water bottle and mints fell out on several occasions when exiting busses. Pocket in top flap was very useful for various paperwork. In all not bad for price.
I would like to have seen an extra zipped pocket on side or some other way of keeping drinking bottles secure, perhaps by extending the size of the netting and providing a zipped top instead of the elastic.
