    Product feature
    1. Field test
All our backpacks are tested in the field by users who represent the target market under conditions identical to those found in typical use. Our "Missions Tests" put the product manager in contact with people who are not affiliated with Quechua to test, develop and validate the products.
    2. Laboratory test
Backpack components are approved in laboratory tests, includingfabric, buckles, webbing, foam, zips, etc. Fabrics are tested for resistance to rubbing, tearing, colour-fastness under UV rays, washing, waterproofing...A test on the final product, which speeds up the effects of impact on the backpack over the years, to check resistance of the assemblies: the backpack is weighted then placed on a dummy which then reproduces the movement of fast walking through thousands of cycles.
    3. 10-year technical partnership guarantee
The heavy stitching research and development department, Quechua's partner for researching and testing its components and assemblies, conducted tests simulating backpack ageing. The tests focused on components, seams and the end product. As a result of these tests, Quechua can guarantee all bags tested for a duration of 10 years from the date of purchase indicated on the sales receipt.
    4. Warranty of 10 years, conditions
The guarantee covers any backpack faults, except those caused by normal wear and tear and improper use. This special 10-year guarantee will only be granted upon presentation of the product and sales receipt. If the product is covered by the warranted, it will be repaired or exchanged for free. This commercial guarantee does not affect any statutory guarantees that are applicable in the country of purchase.
    5. How is backpack volume measured?
The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method: we fill the main compartment as well as each pocket with little balls. Then we empty these balls into a graduated container, which gives the equivalent volume in litres.
    6. How to adjust my backpack?
1- Loosen all the buckles (straps, belt, load boosters). 2 - Put the backpack on. 3 - For bags of 50 l and more, place the belt on your hips (it must cover the pelvic iliac bones) and tighten it. For smaller volumes, place the belt around the waist. 4 - Tighten the shoulder straps. 5- Adjust the load boosters to your liking.
    7. How to pack a backpack?
Put your bedding at the bottom. Place heavy gear (tent, camp stove, food) near your back. Pack your clothes around these items. The groundsheet should be placed under the flap and the tent beneath the pack if there is no space inside. Keep a rainproof jacket and fleece close at hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. If carrying a hydration pack (water bladder), this should be placed in its special pocket along the back.
    8. Environmental measurements
The environmental impact of each product is calculated for the product's entire life cycle, using different indicators. A general ABCDE mark is attributed to help you identify the best environmental performance by comparing products to each other (t-shirts, rucksacks, etc). Decathlon is a voluntary supporter of the environmentally-friendly labelling approach. For more information visit:

    • Perfect Size

      Elisa (Ireland)
Used for 1 week or less
I bought the packpack as a present. The size is perfect for a short trip. Ideal for people who don't like to carry many things (not my case though). As I already read on the reviews before buying it, the only down side is that it doesn't have a rain cover. So I ordered one along with the backpack. Problem solved!

    • Decent for the price, but poor quality zip

      Alexandre (United Kingdom)
Used for More than 1 year
I purchased an Arpenaz 40 backpack just over a year ago, so beyond warranty date. I used it to go to work every day cycling and about a month ago, the zip on the top pocket died. I agree, it was a cheap backpack probably designed for occasionnal use, but I thought that Decathlon gear was always good quality (I used to be a faithful customer). I've always bought a lot of gear was disappointed this time, I thought I'd mention it so that next time you redesign, you insert a more reliable zip for this top pocket .
    • Excellent light bag

      Hulk Hogan (United Kingdom)
Used for 1 week or less
This is fantastic value, is lightweight and has enough room for all my hiking equipment. Even if this bag doesn't last for a lifetime I can buy another one as it only cost £15.
    • Fantastic

    • Arpanez 40 litre - its ok but not the best....

      Matthew (United Kingdom)
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
The statement "you get what you pay for" is true of this backpack. For £15 it just about managed the task but I knew it would have its limits when i bought it.
Several issues are that the carry handle rubs on my neck while walking and the external securing clip for the lid simply doesnt have enough travel. Doing a variety of with with minimal to lots of kit, the backback needs to be full create tension while clsimg it. I ended up cutting the sewn seems on the loops for the lower lid clip so i could tightn it down. Also the way it is shaped at the bottom means it doesnt sit well on the floor so falls over if you dont rest it on something. I could have paid a lot more to get something different but it is ok. Dependent on your requirements take the time to compare the range. I hope this helps
