Backpack technical tests.
We complete laboratory tests to certify components: fabrics, buckles, straps, foam, zips... for example, for a fabric: resistance to scratches, tears, colour stability when exposed to UV rays, during washing, waterproofing.. Subsequently, a test on the end product which accelerates the impact experienced by the bag over the years, to manage the resistance of assemblies: The backpack is weighted, then placed on a dummy which reproduces the movement of fast walking through thousands of cycles.
How is bag volume measured?
The volume of each backpack is measured using a standard method: we use small balls to fill the main compartment as well as each pocket. We then empty the balls into a graduated container, which provides the equivalent volume in litres.
Environmental measures
Oxylane alongside Quechua has decided to inform you on the environmental impact of hiking backpacks across the entire life cycle. This work follows on from an experiment conducted in 2011 alongside the French Department of Ecology. ABCDE are provided to compare the Quechua backpacks only. Details of this project and calculation methods are available at www.oxylane.com/20/demarche-environnementale
