  7. Additional recommended products
Overtrousers or waterproof leggings offer complete protection for the lower legs and provide comprehensive and highly effective protection from the most violent storms. Care products: spray or liquid water-repellent treatment for the washing machine. To restore the fabric's water-repellent properties and optimise performance throughout your garment's lifespan.
  8. Component waterproofing
We measure a fabric's resistance to water pressure, expressed in terms of the height of a water column in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A waterproof rating of 2,000 mm means the fabric can withstand the pressure exerted by a 2,000 mm column of water (the equivalent of a rain shower lasting for two hours).
  9. Garment waterproofing
Technologies: this garment has been shower-tested using 100 litres of water/sqm/hour for 3 hours. This test reproduces the conditions of a violent mountain storm.
  10. Component breathability
To find out if a fabric is breathable, we measure its evaporative resistance RET (test based on ISO 11092). The lower the fabric's resistance, the more water vapour, generated by physical activity, is able to evaporate and the higher the fabric's breathability. For example: RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric / 920 = little or no breathability.
  11. Garment breathability
In addition to breathable fabrics, Quechua develops technical solutions (zips, ventilation, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of all its walking jackets, overtrousers and rain capes (Forclaz, Bionnassay and Helium lines). These ventilation systems help regulate the temperature inside the garment and also facilitate the transfer of perspiration generated by the body during physical exertion.
  12. Water repellent property of the component
A fabric is water repellent when it allows water to slide over its surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from becoming waterlogged, and keeps it lightweight, breathable and warm. A fabric is made water repellent by applying a treatment to its outer surface. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (recommended after every 3 washes). All Quechua ponchos and capes have received a water repellent treatment.
  13. Breathability of the garment
In addition to breathable fabrics, Quechua develops technical solutions (zips, ventilation, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of its trekking jackets, overtrousers and rain capes (Forclaz, Bionassay and Helium lines). These ventilation systems allow to both regulate the temperature inside of the garment and help wick away perspiration generated by the body during exercise.
  14. Water repellent component
The water resistance of a fabric is its ability to let water slide on its surface without absorbing it. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight, breathable and warm. The water resistance is obtained by a treatment applied to the outside of the fabric. This treatment needs to be repeated throughout the product's lifespan (we recommend every 3 washes). All Quechua waterproof ponchos and capes have received a water repellent treatment.
  15. A note to compare the environmental impact of the products
The environmental impacts of the product are calculated throughout its lifecycle and with different indicators. An ABCDE note is performed to help you easily identify the products with the best environmental performance by comparing the products of the same type between them (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks...). Decathlon is a voluntary player of this approach of environmental labelling. For more info: http://sustainability.decathlon.com/
