Overtrousers or waterproof gaiters for perfectly protecting the lower legs and having a very effective and comprehensive protective solution against the worst storms. Care products: waterproof spray or wash-in waterproof liquid. To restore the water repellent property of the fabric and optimise the performance of your garment throughout its lifetime.
  8. Component waterproofing
We measure a fabric's resistance to water pressure, expressed in terms of the height of a water column in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with a 2000 mm waterproof rating is therefore resistant to the pressure exerted by a 2000 mm column of water (which roughly corresponds to a 2-hour downpour).
  9. Waterproofing of the garment
Technologies: this garment passed a shower test under 100 L/m²/h of water for 3 hours. This test reproduces the conditions of a violent storm in the mountains.
  10. Component breathability
To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we test its evaporative resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower the resistance, the more water vapour generated by the physically active body can escape through the fabric. Hence, the more breathable it is. For example: RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric / 920 = little or no breathability.
  11. Breathability of the garment
In addition to the breathability of the fabrics used, Quechua develops technical solutions (zips, air vents, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of all its jackets, over-trousers and rain capes designed for use on long hikes (Forclaz, Bionnassay and Helium lines). These ventilation systems regulate the temperature inside the garment while also helping to eliminate the perspiration generated by the body during physical activity.
  12. Water repellent property of the component
The water repellent property of a fabric is its capacity to make water run off its surface without absorbing it. In this way, the fabric does not soak up water and therefore remains lightweight, breathable and warm. The water-repellent property is obtained by applying a treatment to the outer surface of the fabric. This treatment needs to be restored throughout the lifetime of the garment (every 3 washes). All of Quechua's ponchos and capes have a water repellent treatment.
  13. Breathability of the garment
In addition to breathable fabrics, Quechua develops technical solutions (zips, ventilation, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of its trekking jackets, overtrousers and rain capes (Forclaz, Bionassay and Helium lines). These ventilation systems allow to both regulate the temperature inside of the garment and help wick away perspiration generated by the body during exercise.
  14. Water repellent component
The water resistance of a fabric is its ability to let water slide on its surface without absorbing it. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight, breathable and warm. The water resistance is obtained by a treatment applied to the outside of the fabric. This treatment needs to be repeated throughout the product's lifespan (we recommend every 3 washes). All Quechua waterproof ponchos and capes have received a water repellent treatment.
  15. A note to compare the environmental impact of the products
The environmental impacts of the product are calculated throughout its lifecycle and with different indicators. An ABCDE note is performed to help you easily identify the products with the best environmental performance by comparing the products of the same type between them (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks...). Decathlon is a voluntary player of this approach of environmental labelling. For more info: http://sustainability.decathlon.com/
