Product feature
  1. Can I be sure my jacket will give me enough protection in bad weather?
To tackle bad weather (rain, snow, wind, etc), the FREE 900 jacket was developed with a sophisticated component and assembly that prevents water from getting in and reduces wind chill. To validate the waterproofing of this jacket, it was placed in a special shower that replicates the real-life conditions a skier may be faced with. Finally, we wore the product for several days' skiing under all conditions to validate its waterproof rating.
  2. What is the purpose of my jacket's water repellent treatment?
The water repellent property of a fabric is its capacity to allow water to run off its surface without seeping in. The FREE 900 jacket is equipped with water-repellent components that prolong its resistance to bad weather. This is an additional technical solution for staying dry for as long as possible on the ski slopes. This treatment must be regularly restored using products sold in our stores in order to maintain these properties.
  3. I often hear people talk about "coated" jackets. What are the advantages of this coating?
The coating is a waterproof "substance" that is spread on the inner side of the fabric. It prevents water from seeping into the garment but allows the water vapour produced by an active body to escape. So you will stay dry and comfortable on the slopes
  4. Water often gets in through the seams. Does my jacket have taped seams?
In addition to the waterproof material, the seams of the FREE 900 jacket are taped for superior waterproofing. These are waterproof adhesive strips taped to the seams on the inside of the garment to make it perfectly watertight. The seams are taped in those areas that are most exposed to snow. These are usually located on the shoulders and chest.
  5. What is a membrane and what's it for?
The membrane is a very fine component applied to the inner surface of the outer fabric. This hydrophilic component prevents water from seeping in while wicking away the perspiration produced by the body. In order to stay warm and dry, a membrane is essential.
  6. How does my ski jacket keep me warm?
The integrated down jacket contains feathers for insulation to keep you warm. Feathers are a natural material with superior insulation properties
  7. What is a "breathable" jacket?
It's the ski jacket's ability to let the moisture produced during physical exercise escape, thereby keeping you dry. The breathability of a fabric is assessed by measuring its evaporative resistance, called RET (ISO 11092 standardised test). The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric. Wedze uses technical components and solutions (zips, air vents, mesh) that prevent condensation inside the garment. Free 900 jacket Ret < 12
  8. How should I dress to avoid feeling cold on the slopes?
In order to keep warm and dry, we recommend using the 3-layer rule. The principle is simple: wear 3 clothing layers, each with a particular function. Your skiing base layer and your liner jacket must insulate and retain warmth. Your ski jacket will protect you from the weather conditions. All these layers should be breathable in order to evacuate humidity.
  9. How can I prevent snow from getting in when I fall?
The snow skirt is a protection system at waist level that closes with press studs at the bottom of the ski or snowboard jacket. It prevents snow and air from entering during practice and especially in the event of a fall.
  10. Where can I put my ski pass when taking the ski lifts?
You no longer need to get your ski pass out because your sleeve has a special pocket for it so that you can get to the ski lifts quickly
  11. How can I insulate the exposed areas of my body?
The cuffs are finished with rip-tabs that can be adjusted to go over or under the gloves for a better seal thereby preventing snow from entering should you fall or the discomfort of cold draughts. What's more, given that the cold can cause irritation, Wedze has added a soft fleece chin guard that protects your face from irritation at the neck and chin.
  12. How can I be sure my jacket is strong enough?
We know how much energy is expended during a day's skiing or snowboarding. That’s why we take particular care in choosing all the elements that make up our products to guarantee the best possible protection.
  13. Can I compare the products' environmental impact?
"The product's carbon footprint is calculated for its entire life cycle using various indicators. An ABCDE rating is given to help you easily identify the most eco-friendly products by comparing products of a similar type (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks). Decathlon is committed to displaying environmental data. Explanatory video:"
  14. Built-in Recco system
With the RECCO® technology, you can be located in the event of an avalanche. Someone who is equipped with RECCO® reflectors and is buried in the snow can be quickly and accurately located by the emergency services using the RECCO® tracker. RECCO reflectors are not a substitute for an avalanche beacon. The RECCO technology has a complementary function, thereby increasing the chances of being found in time.
