  • Nearly a great rucksack, dangerous design flaw

    M (United Kingdom)
Used for More than 1 year
First impressions was this is a great rucksack for overnight alpine routes, and I have used it happily enough for a year.

I'd have preferred wand pockets for securing tent poles or walking sticks better.

However, I have to revise my opinion because of the ice axe carrying system. I had secured a single axe, sack about 2/3 full, and had it detach itself and fall down the mountain when doing a climbing traverse under overhangs. My partner saw what happened, the end of the axe came out of the orange loop, because the distance between head and axe loop attachment is too short. I had to finish the route with no axe, including crossing a bergschrund and travelling on a crevassed glacier.

So bargain sack, but false economy at less than half the price of the axe that fell off it.
    Response of the brand
    Hello Max,

I am very sorry to hear that the Jorasses Backpack 40L did not meet with you expectations and put you in a dangerous situation.

I have given this feedback to the Product Designer for Backpacks at Simond. We are currently updating our range of backpacks with the first new ones expected in store this winter.

In the meantime you can take the backpack to your local store, with receipt, and either exchange it for other products or a refund.

Once again I am sorry the Jorasses Backpack 40L was not up to the standards you required.

    Kind Regards

  • Must have!!!

The best climbing pack I have ever owned. Equally at home at the base of a crag as it is in the Alps or Scottish winter. Its been thrown around everywhere and still going strong. Very durable. I have owned a few packs from more established outdoor brands and this is by far the best. Its simple, no nonsense and does everything it should.
Has great secure fastenings for ice tools too and detachable lid to slim down the pack for a lighter/smaller pack when needed.
    Simple design

Just received my Jorasses and first impressions tell me it's a great sack. A great combination of quality fabrics, excellent design features without being too fussy. It looks well suited for multiple uses such as mountaineering and backpacking. I look forward to using it in anger
