  3. Fabric waterproofing
We measure a fabric's resistance to a water column, in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure resistance, the more waterproof the fabric. Components with 2000 mm waterproof rating can resist 2000 mm of water pressure (which is roughly equivalent to a rain shower lasting 2 hours). With a waterproofing rate over 10 000 mm, pants offer an extremely high level of waterproofing.
  4. Product's waterproofing
The Cascade trousers have been approved in a shower test under 100 litres of water / sqm / hour for 3 hours. This test reproduces the conditions of a heavy mountain downpour.
  5. Fabric breathability
To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we test its evaporate resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower the fabric's resistance, the more moisture, generated by an active body, is evaporated, and therefore the higher the fabric's breathability. We consider that if - RET < 9 = highly breathable fabric - 9 12 = slightly or not breathable fabric. Cascade pants have a RET = 6
  6. Garment breathability
On top of the main fabric's breathability, the trousers are designed with 2 side zips that create an air flow to regulate the temperature
  7. Score to compare the environmental impact of products
The environmental impact of the product is calculated over its entire life cycle and with different indicators. An overall ABCDE rating is performed to help you easily identify the products with the best environmental performance by comparing the same type of products with each other (t-shirts, trousers, backpacks, ...).Decathlon is a committed stakeholder in this environmental labelling approach. • Broke

    Sergio (United Kingdom)
Used for 1 week or less
It broke the second day skiing
    Response of the brand
    Hello Sergio,

I am sorry to hear that the Cascade Pants did not meet with you expectations.

Could you please provide me with more specific details. Which part broke, how and what type of skiing you were doing at the time? This will allow me to give more precise feedback to the brand.

These trousers are primarily designed for Mountaineering rather than Skiing which places different strains on different parts of the trousers. I would recommend looking through our range of dedicated Ski Trousers through the link below; though being near the end of the season we are currently limited on sizes.

Once again I am sorry about your issue with the Men's Cascade Pants

  • Multi purpose pants

    Craig (United Kingdom)
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I was looking for a pair of shell pants for skiing and saw these.
Initially I was doubtful they would fit over my ski boots. No problem as they are an excellent fit and the removable inner gaiter is probably not needed when wearing ski boots as the fit is so snug.
I have also worn them whilst hiking in the Cairngorms in typical Scottish weather, one minute blazing sun the next snowing. Again they performed brilliantly!
Size wise they fit fine, maybe slightly long in the leg. The braces have a good range of adjustment but do chafe the chest area a bit if worn just over a base layer.
Maybe not the most breathable trousers but the leg vents allow some heat to escape.
I would buy another pair also thinking about buying the soft shell version as well.
  • Brilliant trousers

    Fergus (United Kingdom)
Used for 1 week or less
I bought these as an last minute replacement for my old waterproofs before heading out for 3 days of Scottish winter climbing. I wasn’t expecting much for the price but I can’t recommend them enough. I was waist deep in snow gully’s for long periods of time getting into the climb then spent a few hours scrapping them off ice and rock. I didn’t get wet nor did the trousers rip. They took 3 days of pain whilst I felt comfortable throughout.

A very good price for an excellent product.
  • Good fit but fabric rips very easily

    Graeme (United Kingdom)
Used for 7 to 12 months
The trousers ripped easily albeit scrambling on some quite rough rock. Then the tears are in multiple direction as if the fabric has no 'rip stop' capability.

For standing round on a wet campsite or some regular hiking I think they are OK but not very robust
    Response of the brand
Thanks for your feedback on the Cascade mountaineering pants and I apologise for the inconvenience causes by the durability of the fabric. If you are close to a store, please drop in and we can find a suitable solution for you whilst also examining  the pant. If not, please get in touch with our customer service team (

  • Brilliant trousers

    John (United Kingdom)

Cant say enough about these trousers. Worn on two Scottish winter trips, very comfortable, well fitted and offer great protection. Well worth the money and offer a reasonably priced alternative to other brands yet still look good.
