  3. How can I be sure of the strength and durability of my trousers?
The environmental impact of the product is calculated over its entire life cycle and using various indicators. A score from A to E is given to help you easily identify the more eco-friendly products by comparing products of a similar type. Decathlon actively promotes this initiative: Find all our sustainable initiatives at http://sustainability.decathlon.com
  4. Can I be sure my trousers will give me proper protection in bad weather?
To withstand bad weather (rain, snow, wind, etc.), the trousers have been developed with a component and assembly that keep the water out and reduce wind chill. The waterproof rating is measured by placing the product in a special shower that replicates the real-life conditions encountered by snowboarders during use. Finally, we have spent a few days snowboarding, in all conditions, to validate the waterproofing of the product.
  5. Water often gets in through the seams. Do my trousers have waterproof seams?
As well as the waterproof fabric, we enhance the waterproofing of the trousers with taped seams. These are waterproof, heat-bonded strips taped to the inside seams of the garment to make it perfectly watertight. For this product, all seams (100%) are waterproof
  6. Why is water-repellency needed for my trousers?
The water-repellent property of a fabric is its ability for water to form on the surface without being absorbed thanks to a treatment applied to the outer surface of the fabric. The fabric does not soak up water and stays light and warm. This treatment must be renewed during the life of the product, after 2 to 3 washes on average, using products available in our stores. All the waterproof trousers that we design for snowboarders are water-repellent.
  7. How do my trousers keep me warm?
To keep you warm, we use faux-down wadding insulation. Wadding is a synthetic component made from polyester which stores more or less air, depending on the length of the fibres. Wadding can be standard, hi-tech or silicone-coated, each with different properties (warmth, light weight, elasticity, etc.). The SNB TR 500 also come with WARM SEAT technology which improves the insulation on the seat by 54% when sitting in the snow.
  8. What is a membrane and what's it for?
A membrane is an extremely thin component (between 5 and 25 micrometres) applied to the internal surface of a textile substrate to give it excellent waterproof and breathable capabilities. Our membrane components stop water getting inside while allowing the water vapour generated by your body to pass through, when snowboarding.
  9. How do I look after my product?
To optimise the performance and durability of your product, we recommend: Machine wash separately at 30°C. Synthetic cycle. Turn the product inside out. Use a small amount of detergent. No softener. We recommend you wring it by hand. Dry on a hanger in a warm, well-ventilated place. Do not dry clean. Do not place on a radiator. You can restore the water resistance of the outer fabric using a fabric waterproofing spray. Read the care label.
  10. How should I dress to avoid getting cold in the mountains?
In order to keep warm and dry, we recommend using the 3-layer rule. The principle is simple: wear 3 layers of clothing, which each have a specific function. Your base layer must produce and retain warmth. Your protective shorts keep you warm (and protect you from knocks), whereas the jacket protects you from the weather. All these layers should be breathable to wick away moisture.
  11. Can I compare the products' environmental impact?
The environmental impact of the product is calculated over its entire life cycle and using various indicators. A score from A to E is given to help you easily identify the more eco-friendly products by comparing products of a similar type. Decathlon actively promotes this initiative: Find all our sustainable initiatives at http://sustainability.decathlon.com
  12. How can I prevent snow from getting into my trousers?
Our trousers have elasticated gaiters which can be adjusted around the boots. If you fall or are in fresh snow, the seal keeps the snow out.
  13. Why is the waterproofing value online and the one in the trousers different?
We designed our trousers by choosing a membrane that ensures waterproofness of 15,000 mm when you buy them. After each wash the membrane becomes less efficient, which is why we also test the product to guarantee optimal waterproofing even after 5 washes. It’s this value after 5 washes that is printed inside the trousers so that the information remains true even in a few years when you sell your product.
