Tested both in the lab and real-world usage, NOVADRY®-equipped footwear guarantees optimum waterproofing and breathability. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
3 levels of waterproofing.
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once dry.
Shoe waterproofing level.
Arpenaz 50 Warm Wtp Man boots are waterproof for 8000 flexes.
Measurement of the boots' thermal insulation.
It used to be impossible to tell the exact temperature down to which your shoes would protect you. Now it can be done: the temperature limits for use are shown on your Quechua shoes.
Using cold sensing tests while hiking and in the lab with a panel of customers, we measured the thermal resistance of our shoes while active and at rest. We take into account the differences in sensing cold between men and women.
This is my second pair, I found the 1st in France about 5 years ago and so glad I could track down a 2nd pair. They are so light, have a good grip and are snuggly warm. I wear these for winter surf photography in rugged locations and they have not let me down! Also good for winter walks and gardening. Easily comparable to £200+ winter wellies - these do the job just as well. Buy some, you won't be disappointed.
warm, light, cheap, last a long time
Well worth the money
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
These boots are brilliant for use when in the garden as well as being light and comfortable enough to go for a decent walk in. They are totalt waterproof and will keep your feet really warm even on the coldest days. The removable sock is a great feature as you can choose to wear the boots without them fitted. One small problem I found was that if you wear very thick socks along with the inner bootsock, then the boots can be a bit harder to get on and off. if you are looking for a casual comfy boot my advice is to ignore the more expensive offerings and give these great boots a try
Light weight, warm, comfortable
nothing to be concerned about
