Lengthy research into the design of the sole at the Essensole laboratories, combined with a special rubber formulation optimise grip on rocky terrain.
360° System
Our exclusive system uses a strap that goes under your instep. When the laces are tightened, the strap becomes tighter, to more efficiently support the instep without compromising on comfort. Because the angle of the strap is in line with the lacing, there are no hard points felt. Not only does this mean optimum support, but it also offers greater precision and safety on technical paths.
X stab technology
TPU part (rigid plastic) stabilises the heel. This insert is embedded into the compression-moulded EVA at the heel thereby stabilising and keeping it in position at the back of the shoe. The insert extends out at the sides so that it is covered by the 360° System strap, gently merging with the rest of the shoe at the forefoot. Linked with the injected EVA at the front of the sole, it serves as a rigidifying component and optimises dynamism.
Cushioning
Two types of materials have been used to provide an optimised cushioning / weight ratio. The heel (the part of your foot that needs the most cushioning) is made of compressed EVA. This provides long-lasting cushioning over time whilst minimising the thickness of the shoe. The front of the shoe is made of injected EVA; this light and bouncy material allows you to push off effectively.
Waterproofing test
Footwear waterproofing test: laboratory and field-tested shoes with a breathable, waterproof membrane to ensure optimum protection from the rain. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
3 levels of waterproofing
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once dry.

Buying tips
Try on both shoes, standing up, wearing hiking socks. Try several styles and sizes, if required. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going down. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Wear your shoes in gradually during the first hikes, to mould them to your foot.
What shoe size do I choose?
For hiking, try taking one shoe size up from your usual to ensure optimum comfort when going downhill and to prevent your toes from hitting the toe box. Tip: keep your toenails short and before descending, check that your lacing will stop your foot from sliding towards the front of the shoe.
Field test
All our shoes are tested for comfort and use by representative users under conditions identical to those found when in use. Our Missions Tests link the product manager up with people who are not affiliated to Quechua to test, develop and approve the products.
Laboratory test
Other laboratory tests are also conducted to approve the quality of the following components: torn eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion of the sole and the components of the upper, accelerated ageing.
