DESCRIPTION:
For thousands of years, Negro healers have been using devil's claw for many diseases. The only place on earth where this wonderful plant grows is the Kałahari Desert in South-West Africa. In this extremely dry area, practically devoid of vegetation,Devil's Clawhad to develop a special root system to store moisture. Growing to a depth of 120 cm, it branches into a bundle of potato-like tuberous roots. One hundred kilograms of these roots yield six kilograms of raw material containing the active substance.
It owes its name to the appearance of thorny pods developing from bright red flowers. These pods are like devil's claws - they are so strong that you have to use tongs to free the animals' hooves from them.
Each root is dug out separately, cut into slices, dried and ground. A sticky, difficult to process substance is obtained. Knowledge about this unusual African herb was acquired by European settlers in the early 20th century. One of them sent samples of dried devil's claw to Dr. Bernhard Zorn, head of the Institute of Physiology and Chemistry at the University of Friedrich Schiller in Jena, Germany.
Of course, therapeutic experiments were first carried out on rats. They were induced with gout using formaldehyde, and when the inflammation developed after 12-14 days, the root was administered as an infusion, orally and by injection. Three series of tests were performed. After five weeks of treatment with Devil's Claw, a significant reduction in swelling and restoration of normal paw movements were observed, while in the control group, spontaneous resolution of gout was slight.
The famous Swiss herbalist, after researching devil's claw as a health remedy, recommends annual treatment with the root, claiming that it will remove toxic residues from our body and allow us to enjoy a healthier life.
