The Tom Thumb bit is a cross between an American gag and an elevator bit. It offers more precision and control and is very popular for show jumping and cross country. It has a lifting action in the front that can help the rider sit the horse on its hocks, allowing for tighter turns and a more efficient jump. The lifting action combined with the head pressure can also discourage horses from leaning on the bit. Can be used with a single rein on the snaffle ring or lower ring or, for greater precision, with two reins. The Waterford mouthpiece is made of a series of ball-shaped links, which makes it completely mobile in all directions. It is especially popular for problems such as leaning, bit grip and jaw position. When the horse tries to grab the bit, the mouthpiece collapses, leaving the horse with nothing rigid to hold on to. Brass alloy is formed when copper is alloyed with a harder metal, resulting in a warm, durable material that is perfect for horse bits because it promotes salivation and is more palatable to the horse. The Waterford mouthpiece combined with the Tom Thumb action gives a strong action and therefore this bit should only be used by experienced cavaliers. It should also be worn 1/4' to 1/2' wider than standard to be effective. Measurements According to our size guide, the A and B measurements for this bit are: A=10.5mm B=135mm Note: The C measurement is taken between the first links of the chain at each end. It does not correspond to the total length of the mouthpiece. Brass horse bits ... Brass alloy bits are warm, durable and encourage the horse to salivate as well as accept the bit easily. Ideal for a range of horses, especially those that need to be encouraged to bite and accept the bit.Pair your horse bit with one of our anatomical bridles.
