Features
Dimensions: 154x130x50 mm Exit pupil: 5.25 mm Brightness index: 27.6 Twilight factor: 18.3 Field of vision: 109 m to 1000 m distance Closest observation point: 5 m Waterproof and anti-fog: nitrogen-filled Lens treatment: FMC (Full Multi-Coated) Prism: Silver BaK4 Plastic casing (reinforced ABS with fibreglass)
Image quality 1
When light passes through the binoculars, it loses some of its intensity. Each lens absorbs a proportion (a few percent) of the light passing through it. With 10 optical components, the quantity absorbed becomes significant. This requires a treatment to be applied to each component to reduce the proportion absorbed. But every treatment represents a cost. And the more effective the treatment, the more expensive it is. Binoculars are therefore designed to carefully balance effectiveness and price.
Image quality 2
The binoculars have a BaK4 prism with a silver coating and lenses with an FMC treatment: Full multi-coated – all the surfaces are fully multi-coated for an optimal light transmission. These 2 features offer a light transmission of 78% as well as excellent contrast and colour rendition during the day, and excellent brightness at dusk. The prism provides sharply defined images for observing details.
Waterproofing
Binoculars are nitrogen-filled to keep water out and prevent fogging up. Withstands immersion at a depth of 1 metre for 15 minutes.
Brightness and use
These 8x42 binoculars 500 are very well suited to bird watching and watching moving animals thanks to their wide field of vision. They also work well for stalking and hunting from a hide with their excellent brightness at dusk. Finally if you want to comfortably enjoy long watching sessions, these binoculars are ideal thanks to 8x magnification.
Exit pupil
A human pupil varies from 2 mm to 3 mm during the day, from 4 mm to 5 mm at dusk, and from 6 mm to 7 mm in the dark. This makes it important to choose a pair of binoculars with an exit pupil that covers your entire pupil, in order to make full use of their luminosity depending on your needs. The 8x42 binoculars have a 5.25 mm exit pupil, making them well suited to being used at dusk, and even better suited than the 10x42 model with a 4.2 mm exit pupil.
Tips for those who wear glasses and sharpness adjustment
Twist up eyecups for spectacle wearers. For non-spectacle wearers, twist out the eyecups as far as they will go. For spectacle wearers, twist the eyecups down to the binocular body. To obtain a clear, sharp image of the observed animal, turn the central focusing knob to the left or right until you get a sharp image.
Adjustment of dioptre compensation
To compensate for difference in visual acuity between your eyes: Close your right eye and focus on an object about metres away using the central knob. Once the object is sharp, close the other eye and repeat the operation, this time using the dioptre correction ring located near the right eyecup. The difference between your eyes is now compensated for. You no longer need to use the dioptre correction ring.
Want to capture a memory of the scene you’re observing through your binoculars?
It’s possible! This is referred to as digiscoping. Digiscoping is the art of capturing photos of the scenes you observe through your binoculars using your smartphone. All you need is one accessory: a digiscoping adapter. You can find it in our range with the reference 8648792.
