TECHNICAL INFORMATIONS

How to use snowshoes?

Before putting them on:

There is a snowshoe for the right foot and one for the left foot, check you have the correct snowshoe on each foot thanks to the pictogram on the snowshoe deck.

Adjustable:Your snowshoes must be properly adjusted to ensure your safety.

1/ Your feet must reach the ends (front and back) to optimise shoe support.

2 / The straps or buckles (according to the model) must be tightened as much as possible.

Choose your snowshoes according to your weight:

Choose snowshoes depending on the weight of the wearer (including the weight of their backpack) to enable them to remain on the surface of the snow. This is what is known as lift. There are different sizes of snowshoes to adapt to all sizes and hiking practices.

Our advice:

15 to 50 kg: child model

40 to 80 kg: small to medium deck

60 to 120 kg: large deck

Heel lift for greater ease when climbing:

Choose snowshoes with a heel lift to walk more easily and comfortably uphill. This removable heel lift raises the heel. It can be used when climbing steep hills to reduce the effect of the slope and save energy.

Using poles for increased stability when snowshoeing:

We strongly recommend that you use a pair of poles for better stability when snowshoeing. Especially if you intend to walk on slopes (uphill, downhill, etc.) or on powder snow where you may sink in more. There are 2 types of basket, choose large baskets so that the poles remain on the surface.

Choose breathable clothing for snowshoeing:

We tend to over-dress when hiking in the snow because we are afraid of the cold. However, you will heat up very quickly when snowshoeing.

Adopt the 3 layer technique!

This technique gives you warmth according to your level of effort: remove clothing when it is warm, put it back on when it is colder or during breaks. If you are too hot, you will perspire more, which will cool you down during breaks or when going downhill on a hike.

Dress using the 3-layer technique

To dress properly in winter, whatever your activity, we recommend using the 3-layer principle:

layer 1: The high-tech base layer transfers moisture away from the body to keep your skin dry.

layer 2: The second layer (fleece, sweater) provides warmth and transfers moisture outwards.

layer 3: The jacket protects you from the outdoor conditions: rain, snow, wind.

The whole outfit must be breathable in order to eliminate moisture.

The outfit is suitable for snowshoeing:

Our design team has worked on the ideal snowshoeing outfit. It enables sufficient warmth, while integrating ventilation zips to reduce perspiration and stretch inserts to enable amplitude of movement. Hardwearing boots with good grip for great traction on snow:

The outfit:

SH500 Mountain Warm Fleece, SH500 Mountain Ventil Warm Trousers, SH500 Warm Shoe

WHICH FOOTWEAR?

For snowshoeing, you need warm high-top hiking shoes that are waterproof and breathable. Also go for shoes with good grip for the areas where you will remove your snowshoes (on the car park or if there is not enough snow).

NEVER FORGET ABOUT SAFETY

For off-piste hiking, make sure you are equipped with maps, a compass and/or GPS and carry an Avalanche Victim Detector, a shovel and a probe. These three pieces of equipment allow you to be found if you are caught in an avalanche, or look for a victim. And do not forget to revise your security basics.
