DESIGN AND MATERIALS
Thin, aerodynamic, and sturdy The Edge 1040 has a new design that is 3 mm longer for a more streamlined, aerodynamic shape. Its 130g composite casing includes a much more durable ¼ turn aluminium attachment to withstand repeated vibrations from rough ground like with mountain or gravel biking.
Improved user interface
Completely redesigned user interface to ensure a smoother, more intuitive access to data and features. It is structured around widgets and a single main menu. The device's configuration and connected functions have also been simplified (plus the double BT pairing, for example)
LARGE COLOUR TOUCH SCREEN
High-definition colour screen, identical to the one on the Edge 1040. It is 3.5" / 8.89 cm diagonal (282 x 470 pixels) and is transflective and capacitive. So it adapts perfectly to the outdoor lighting based on brightness conditions, and the touch screen works perfectly with gloves or in the rain.
CONNECTED COMPUTER: SMART NOTIFICATIONS, CONNECT IQ & SYNCHRONISATION WITH GARMIN CONNECT
Get emails, messages and notifications straight to your Edge when synced with a compatible smartphone. Download data fields and get apps and widgets from our Connect IQ store. The Garmin Connect app is home to a thriving online community where users can connect during their rides, take part in challenges, and even share their achievements on social media.
NAVIGATION: GARMIN CYCLE MAP, BACK TO THE START
Ride with pre-loaded maps that give you info about altitude and points of interest and let you search for addresses. Never get lost thanks to the detailed navigation features and alerts that warn you of the next turn you need to take. The Edge 1040 device helps you get back on your route if you stray off it, and guides you back to your starting point if you want to head home earlier than planned.
TRENDLINE POPULAR ROUTES GENERATOR
The Edge 1040 uses the billions of kilometres of routes uploaded by cyclists to suggest the best itinerary based on the most popular roads and trails. Spend more time pedalling and less time waiting thanks to a route planner that's twice as fast as on previous models.
Multi-continent mapping
The Edge® 1040 carries 32GB of memory and is pre-loaded with: Topo Active Europe + Cycling Map Europe - 47 countries - with themes specific to each type of practice and highlighting the most important information. Displays "Popularity Routing" of the most popular roads and trails among Garmin users. Uses millions of kilometres of data from Garmin Connect - gathered from athletes to create the best itineraries.
TRAILFORKS APP AND FORKSIGHT MODE
Download the free Trailforks app from our Connect IQ™ store, then unlock the Trailforks map on your Edge, including trail conditions, heatmaps and much more. When you use the Trailforks app, this mode automatically displays upcoming forks and shows you your position on the trail network.
EXTENDED BATTERY LIFE
The Edge 1040 has a 1900mAh Li-Ion battery that has better performance to achieve ever more battery life for long rides and multi-day trips. Record battery life - 35 hours of battery life in GPS mode and 70 hours in power saver mode.
Multi-band GPS
This new function unique to Garmin is a high-performing technology that provides unequalled precision in GPS positioning. Thanks to its constant recalculation of position on the 2 frequencies of each GNSS multi-band compatible network, this technology identifies and effectively eliminates poor positioning data, thus offering much greater precision, particularly in canyons, cities, and challenging alpine environments.
High-performance built-in sensors
Like its predecessor, the Edge 1040 includes all the essential sensors for obtaining precise performance data, including a barometric altimeter, a temperature sensor, a compass, an accelerometer, and a magnetometer. It is also equipped with terminals compatible with the Garmin Charge™ power pack.
IMPROVED MEMORY AND USB C
To download even more extra maps, the 1040 has 32 GB of internal memory. The Edge 1040 is now equipped with the new standard USB-C The device is also compatible with ANT+, Bluetooth Low Energy and WiFi sensors. Tracks the sensor battery levels with post-race reports on the device and battery alert messages between rides via Garmin Connect Mobile.
Performance management features: Planning (1)
"Cycling capacity" Determines the athlete's abilities to help plan training. This analysis is based on VO2 Max data, FTP, anaerobic and aerobic capacities, and aerobic endurance, and explains the type of work needed to improve. Recovery and tracking of physical condition Tracks the development of physical fitness throughout training and provides tips and precise data on recovery levels
Performance management features: Preparing (1)
Training features Create and download free workouts from Garmin Connect*. Create a simple workout directly from the Edge.
Performance management features: Preparing (2)
Enter your training goals, off-days, activity level, and available sensors to get a customised free workout plan directly from the Edge. This workout plan can be connected to a specific race (Gran Fondo, Cyclosportives, Stage of the Tour de France, etc.), and thus provide an adapted plan over 30 weeks or more, including all phases of preparation (general basic preparation, specific work, and honing skills).
Performance management features: Preparing (3)
When a workout is missed, the focus is on priority workouts rather than offering a lower-priority workout planned for that day. In the plan, these workouts are marked "key" or "long" Training sessions are offered with power or heart rate targets. The goal of this feature is to provide advice to cyclists who aren't following a specific training plan but who want to improve.
Performance management features: Performing (1)
Power guide: Manage your efforts with the power guide function which recommends power goals throughout a ride. Real-time endurance level – STAMINA The function of the real-time endurance level - Stamina - tracks and helps athletes manage their physical effort throughout a ride. It displays energy consumption and helps athletes avoid "running out of gas" by starting their rides too quickly.
Performance management features: Performing (2)
ClimbPro function: Automatically displays climbs on a ride and specifies the % gradient and number of km remaining to the summit. Perfect for better effort management. Climb data is visible on Garmin Connect Mobile Nutrition and hydration: The Edge also records nutrition and hydration data based on heat, altitude, heart rate, and power to provide specialised alerts during workouts.
EBIKE FUNCTIONS
Before the ride: the smart algorithm uses elevation data built into the map, as well as user and bike data, to display a distance indicator in itinerary planning. During the ride: indicates a dynamic range based on real electric bike battery consumption, with dedicated user alerts in case of battery level issues. After the ride: E-Bike battery level / consumption report
SAFETY FEATURES (1)
Incident detection and assistance request* Manually or in case of a fall, the Edge sends GPS position and a request for assistance to 3 emergency contacts. These functions require a connection to a smart phone.
SAFETY FEATURES (2)
LiveTrack* Simplification - Improvement Allows friends and family to more easily track your rides. The new version of LiveTrack allows you to share your planned rides so that those following at a distance can see where the cyclist has been and where they're going. You can start a LiveTrack session directly from the Edge.
SAFETY FEATURES (3)
New - Full Varia compatibility See and be seen, and record what's coming behind you with Varia Radar - Informs cyclists of vehicles approaching from behind ("see") - 8 vehicles up to 140 m - and increases the vigilance of drivers towards cyclists on the road ("be seen"). The RCT 715 version records and stores images before, during, and after events if it detects an incident
