Yoga Mats

Yoga Mats FAQs

What is the right yoga mat thickness for practising at home?

The right yoga mat thickness depends on the floor you practise on, the cushioning your knees and spine need, and the style of yoga you actually do across the week. Thicker mats deliver more padding for floor-based poses and suit anyone practising on hard wooden floors, while thinner mats give a more stable, grounded connection that helps with balancing poses like Tree or Warrior III. Right mat becomes useful during long sessions, as too much cushioning destabilises the standing leg in single-leg poses, while too little leaves the knees feeling every minute of a long floor sequence. Lightweight travel mats fit easily into a backpack for commuter classes and studio classes. Smart advice: unroll your mat on a flat surface for the first session to let the foam settle into a uniform shape. For carrying your mat to and from the studio, browse our range of yoga mat bags across the Kimjaly and Domyos labels in shoulder-strap, drawstring, and full-zip cuts.

What materials affect the grip of yoga mats and which suits my practice?

The material of a yoga mat affects grip and stability during practice, and the right pick depends on whether your hands stay dry or sweat freely across a flow. TPE mats are lightweight, soft to the touch, and a great all-rounder for beginners, while natural rubber delivers a denser, tackier grip that suits anyone with damp hands or a high-sweat practice. Polyurethane top layers absorb moisture rather than repel it, which makes them the go-to choice for hot yoga and high-intensity vinyasa flows. To support the mat with blocks, straps, towels, and bricks for deeper poses, browse our range of yoga accessories across the Kimjaly and Domyos labels for the complete studio setup.

Can I use a yoga mat for other gym exercises and fitness work?

Yoga mats are built for barefoot movement and joint comfort rather than high-impact gym work, which means high-impact HIIT sessions, weightlifting, and shoe-based circuits are better suited to a dedicated fitness mat. Stability counts more during explosive movements: yoga mats prioritise a soft feel against bare skin, while fitness mats are built with greater tear resistance to handle the friction of trainers across mountain climbers, burpees, and lateral jumps. Wearing shoes on a yoga mat tears the delicate surface fast. To pair the mat with proper studio kit for male practitioners, browse our range of men's yoga clothing in shorts, T-shirts, and joggers across the Kimjaly and Domyos labels.

What yoga clothing pairs best with a yoga mat for a full practice setup?

The right yoga clothing pairs with your mat to deliver a complete practice kit that moves with you across every flow, hold, and inversion. The clothing should stretch with the body without bunching at the waist or riding up during downward dog, deliver enough coverage for forward folds and inversions, and breathe well enough to handle a high-sweat hot yoga session. Soft-touch fabrics, four-way stretch, and high-waisted leggings dominate the women's range. For women building a full studio kit, browse our range of women's yoga clothing in leggings, sports bras, tops, and seamless cuts across the Kimjaly, Domyos, and Nyamba labels.

How do yoga mats fit into a complete yoga mat and bag setup?

Yoga mats and bags work as a paired system for anyone who practises away from home, since the right bag protects the mat from rain on the walk to the studio, keeps it clean between sessions, and makes the trip on bike, foot or public transport genuinely easier. Many practitioners build their kit around a matched mat and bag combination, which removes the guesswork around sizing of buying them separately and ensures the bag carries the mat snugly without bunching. Browse our range of yoga mats and bags across the Kimjaly and Domyos labels for matched combinations covering beginner, regular, and travel practice.
