The Robens Aster 2 Pro tackles the common frustration of cramped dome tents by adding a short transverse ridge pole across its structure. This simple addition transforms the interior, giving you proper headroom and enough width for both occupants to sit side by side without awkward shuffling. The twin door system is genuinely useful rather than just a marketing feature - each person gets independent access, which matters when someone needs the loo at 2am or wants to adjust ventilation on their side. Those twin porches aren't massive, but they're properly sized for storing boots, rucksacks and a cooking setup, keeping the sleeping area clear. The free-standing inner pitches with clips onto the flysheet, making setup straightforward even when the ground's too hard for easy pegging or you're pitching in wind.
Weather protection is where this tent earns its keep for UK camping. The 4000mm hydrostatic head flysheet with fully taped seams handles persistent rain without drama, whilst the covered ventilation panels at each end keep air moving without creating draughts or letting rain in. The groundsheet sits at 6000mm, so you're not waking up damp even on saturated pitches. At 2.4kg packed, it's not ultralight territory but manageable for cycle touring or short hikes to wilder pitches, though it really shines for car-based camping where comfort matters more than shaving grams. The aluminium pole structure feels solid without being heavy, and those locking pole tips are the kind of detail that prevents frustrating slippage during setup. Robens has also committed to PFAS-free water repellency, which matters if you're conscious about surroundingsal impact. For couples who camp regularly and value proper living space over minimal weight, the Aster 2 Pro delivers reliable performance across UK seasons.
