Designed to meet the demands of exacting rugby players, the Propadz shoulder-pad vest represents a new generation of sports protection. Developed with input from Sean O'Brien, former Connacht professional and captain of Ireland U20, the vest combines more than 25 years of on-field experience with focused research and development.
At the core of the Propadz is a modular panel system that accepts 10 mm gel pads positioned on strategic zones: acromioclavicular, clavicle, sternoclavicular and sternum. This arrangement delivers targeted protection while dispersing impact forces. The pads conform to World Rugby Reg. 12-2023, providing verified safety and suitability across playing levels.
Constructed from a lightweight, breathable fabric with four-way elastane stretch, the vest effectively wicks heat to reduce overheating during intense sessions. The gel pads outperform traditional foam by offering improved thermoregulation and a close anatomical fit. A silicone non-slip elastic band secures the vest in place to minimise unwanted movement on the pitch.
Maintenance is simple: the Propadz can be machine washed in cold water. It is also designed to support post-injury treatment: hot or cold packs can replace the gel pads to assist physiotherapy and rehabilitation without disrupting the vest's protective function.
An integrated GPS tracker slot on the back allows players and coaches to monitor performance while preserving comfort and safety. A secure flap protects the device while keeping it accessible for removal or servicing.
The vest has been trialled on field and in laboratory conditions and is now used by numerous international players, including Ultan Dillane, who joined the project as an investor after testing early prototypes. These trials helped refine fit, durability and protective performance, establishing the Propadz as a reference point for premium protection.
Designed to accommodate adult body shapes, this unisex vest slips on easily beneath a jersey without causing discomfort. It strikes a balance between technical innovation, ergonomic comfort and enhanced safety, making it suitable for both training and match play.
