Talamex Antifreeze protects your pipes and engines from freezing. When temperatures fall below zero degrees Celsius in winter, the water in the onboard system can freeze. Anyone who has ever left a full bottle in the freezer knows what can happen: water expands by around ten percent when it freezes. If there is not enough room for this expansion, pipes and hoses can burst. When the water thaws again, this can also result in water damage. Antifreeze lowers the freezing point of the water and helps prevent freezing.
Talamex Antifreeze protects copper pipes down to -45°C and PVC pipes down to -25°C. Many conventional antifreeze products contain silicates, which can damage hoses, seals and connectors. Talamex Antifreeze is silicate-free and therefore helps protect the entire piping system. It also provides protection against corrosion and rust.
The engine cooling system in particular must be protected against frost. It is therefore important to winterise the boat using antifreeze to ensure that all pipes and systems remain protected throughout the winter. In addition to the engine, the drinking water system, boiler and waste holding tank should also be treated with antifreeze.
Before adding the antifreeze, the tank should be drained and cleaned. The pump and water tank should also be thoroughly checked for additional drain valves. Once the system has been drained, the antifreeze is poured into the tanks. Then run the system until the coloured antifreeze comes out of the taps or outlets.
As an additional precaution, taps can be left open during the winter. If any residual water remains in the system, this allows it to expand without causing damage.
Talamex Antifreeze is non-toxic and suitable for engine, cooling and water systems. Although it is non-toxic, it should not be discharged directly into waterways. Collect the contaminated water in a suitable container such as a bucket and dispose of it properly.
Talamex Anti Freeze must not be diluted, as dilution will reduce its protective effect.
