How do I use this sharpener for straight-edged knives?
Insert the blade into the "coarse" sharpening slot (carbide side).
Pull the blade through the slot towards you (repeating the action several times). This allows you to get an edge quickly by removing imperfections in the blade.
Then insert the blade into the "fine" sharpening slot (ceramic side).
Pull the blade through the slot towards you (repeating the action several times). This refines the cutting edge.
Repeat as many times as necessary until the desired sharpness is achieved.
How can you tell if a knife is becoming blunt?
Several signs indicate when your knife is becoming blunt:
-the cutting edge of the blade is worn or rounded
-slicing food becomes more difficult and less precise, as the blade tends to "catch"
-the blade slips on the food, which increases the risk of injury
It is important to note that a poorly sharpened knife may show one or more of these signs simultaneously.
How can I avoid a blunt knife?
It’s pretty simple: maintain it regularly! On average, a sharpening lasts 6–12 months (depending on how you use your knife). However, if you wait until the blade is blunt before sharpening your knife, sharpening will take longer and be more difficult. What’s more, a blunt blade demands more pressure when cutting, which can increase the risk of the knife slipping. We therefore recommend sharpening your knives every month for peace of mind
Safety advice
Always keep your fingers clear of the blade while sharpening to avoid cuts.
