Their arm strength and technique are generally good, but their body positioning is poor, which creates a lot of resistance and 'dead weight', and makes efficient swimming much more difficult.
The shorts floatation devices place the swimmer in the correct horizontal and aerodynamic position, which helps them build a 'neural model' of how they should feel in the water. It also allows the swimmer to focus on a more efficient leg kick and glide with each stroke, without that 'sinking leg' feeling.
The extra support also allows the swimmer to focus more on their stroke technique.
Results have shown that over time, a swimmer's body position, speed andendurance can be significantly improved by training with shorts floats.
Suitable for all triathletes, regardless of level, who wish to refine their open water swimming technique in a pool. Swimming in a wetsuit during a triathlon is very different from swimming without a wetsuit during a swim race. The majority of your power must come from your upper body while your legs and core provide the essential control. These shorts help you develop your open water swimming technique when you're in the pool, where wearing a full wetsuit would either be too hot or prohibited by the lifeguards.
Use during open water training or races as an alternative to a full body suit (when the water is warm enough!).
