What is a quilt?
A quilt can replace a traditional sleeping bag. It is an insulating blanket designed for bivouacking, without a hood, a zip, or insulation underneath.
The insulation underneath the body is provided by the mattress, so you must choose it with a high R-value (> 4.8).
What's the difference between a quilt and a sleeping bag?
More lightweight, compact and flexible than a traditional sleeping bag, a quilt is an ideal solution for trekkers who like walking long distances without being weighed down.
Whereas a sleeping bag offers enclosed protection, a quilt is like a blanket, allowing total freedom of movement.
It appeals to ultralight trekkers, whether they enjoy thru-hiking or fastpacking.
What thermal properties does the quilt have?
There is no standardised rating system for quilts (like the EN/ISO standard for sleeping bags). The figures given should therefore be treated with caution.
We recommend that you choose a quilt for which the indicated temperature is around 5°C lower than the coldest temperature expected during your trek.
The fill power (900 cuin in this case) and the total weight of the filling should also be taken into account.
What is the recommended usage temperature for the Sprint quilt?
This quilt has been tested to the international standard ISO 23537-1: 2022 used for sleeping bags with a comfort temperature of 11°C.
To take the specific shape of quilts into consideration, we’ve done away with the measurements taken at the neck and the head.
Under these conditions, the comfort temperature is evaluated at -3°C.
We opted to indicate 0°C so we have a safety buffer and we recommend it for temperatures between 5°C and 0°C.
How can I make the most of the Sprint UL 0°C quilt?
We recommend that you wear a beanie hat to make up for the absence of hood and avoid heat loss from the head.
Use a thermal sleeping bag liner for extra warmth and to avoid having to wash the quilt too often.
You also need to use a good insulating mattress.
Why did we choose goose down?
A fill power of over 800 cuin can only be obtained with goose down. Loftier than duck down, it offers superior warmth and better loft for the same weight, as well as a more compact product, as it requires less down for equivalent thermal comfort.
What is the fill power of the down used in the Sprint 0°C quilt?
We use 900-cuin RDS-certified goose down (90% down/10% feathers) (420g in size L).
The down is spread over 4cm-high compartments, separated by mesh partitions and positioned in a Z-shape to prevent the formation of thermal bridges.
What are the weight and dimensions of the Sprint 0°C quilt?
Size L (users between 1.70 m and 1.84 m): 645g for the quilt alone (including 420g of down/feathers). Folded dimensions: W 33 cm Ø 18 cm 8.4L volume when uncompressed. Total length: 192cm.
Total weight: 695 g.
Size XL (users between 1.85 m and 2 m): 765g for the quilt alone (including 500g of down/feathers). Folded dimensions: W 33 cm Ø 19 cm 9.4L volume when uncompressed. Total length: 209cm. Total weight: 825 g.
What is the resistance of the fabric used in the Sprint 0°C quilt?
The outside is made of 100% 10-denier polyamide fabric (27 g/sqm), with a 30-denier ripstop reinforcement. This fabric can withstand 80,000 abrasion cycles.
Resistance is calculated using the Martindale test (ISO 12947-2 standard), which involves rubbing the fabric against another material to determine the product's wear limits.
How are the fabrics used in this quilt made?
No PFAS treatments have been intentionally added to this product.
How to care for your Sprint 0°C quilt
Even if you use a sleeping bag liner, you will need to wash your quilt from time to time.
Machine wash it at 30°C, with 2 or 3 tennis balls, and select a gentle spin cycle.
Use our special down detergent (ref: 8817232)
Tumble dry for 2 to 3 cycles with 2 or 3 tennis balls until it is completely dry.
How do you repair the Sprint 0°C down quilt?
On a trek, you can snag your quilt, it happens! The good news is that it can be repaired to prevent the tear from getting bigger or the down from escaping.
We recommend using self-adhesive repair patches (ref: 8777140).
If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, we offer a repair service in our Decathlon stores and one of our specialists can apply a heat-bonded patch for you.
What is the RDS certification?
Responsible Down Standard-certified products contain feathers and down from certified farms that meet animal welfare requirements.
