    Directions for use

    Open the bag and bring the two ends together till they touch, so that the bottom of the bag opens up like a bowl.
    Add 400 ml of simmering water (level 8) then mix with a spoon and close the zip. Stir the bag regularly during rehydration. Wait for 5 to 8 minutes before opening, stir again and eat.

    Advice for use (continued)

    It is possible to tear the bag at mid height to use it as a bowl.
    Warning, the hotter the water, the better the rehydration. If the water is not boiling, wait a few minutes before tasting.

    Freeze-drying and dehydration?

    Both these processes are inspired by nature. They take the water contained in the food to make it last longer by freeze-drying or heat drying.
    Freeze-drying takes the water contained in the food by transferring it from solid state (frozen) to gas form.
    This extremely old process is used by the people of the South American highlands.
    Dehydration dries the food at high temperature. The water contained in the food evaporates.

    How are the dishes prepared?

    At Forclaz, we want to offer you more and more 100% freeze-dried products.
    In fact, the nutritional and taste qualities of the food are better preserved when freeze-dried, while preservatives and additives are eliminated. This also means you can cook meals that taste almost as good as homemade!
    Freeze-drying isn't necessary for dry food that already keeps for a long time (rice, pasta, semolina, etc.).

    The advantages of your beef and mash:

    Since the health and well-being of our athletes matters to us, this meal has been improved for 2020 as a result of your feedback: we have developed a recipe with a lower salt content.
    The tomme cheese and the meat are French and freeze-dried. The meat is cooked. We have also selected French-sourced potato flakes with no emulsifier!
    All these improvements have helped us to earn the Origine France Garantie (French Origin Guaranteed) label.

    Packaged in a protective atmosphere. Eat fully after opening.

    Food is not fresh indefinitely. Over time, they deteriorate or go moldy. To slow down this process and keep our meals warm for as long as possible, a food-safe gas (nitrogen E941) is added into the packaging before it is sealed. Inert and odourless, nitrogen protects it from oxidation, while removing all damp.

    The entire design team had the opportunity to test the beef and mash meal throughout its development during frequent trips to the Mont Blanc mountain range, where the Forclaz (Decathlon's trekking brand) offices are located. The beef and mash meal was tested and validated in the field in real-life conditions. It was tasted during a 5-week trek by a team of testers who spent 2 weeks trekking in the Canary Islands and 3 weeks on the GR10 trails.
