The LifeStraw Personal is a lightweight, portable straw water filter that makes contaminated freshwater drinkable by removing bacteria, parasites and microplastic. It removes 99.999999% of bacteria (including E. coli and Salmonella), 99.999% of parasites (including Giardia and Cryptosporidium) and 99.999% of microplastics, and reduces turbidity from sand and silt. The durable membrane microfilter has a pore size of 0.2 micron and treats up to 4,000 litres of water — enough drinking water for one person for more than five years with typical use. The LifeStraw is BPA-free, weighs approximately 46 g and measures 22.9 x 2.5 cm. It meets US EPA and NSF P231 protocols for removal of bacteria and parasites.
